How TarotWise stores data
TarotWise itself does not use traditional cookies for its own features. Instead, it uses localStorage, a small storage area in your browser that websites can write to and read from. Data in localStorage stays on your device, is never sent automatically to any server, and persists until you or your browser clears it. This is how the site remembers your journal, your preferences, and your consent decision between visits without needing accounts. The only cookies involved with TarotWise come from third-party services, Google Analytics and Google AdSense, and those are loaded only after you give consent in the banner.
What each stored item does
Here is what TarotWise keeps in localStorage, in plain terms. Your journal holds the readings you chose to save, along with any notes you added. Your daily card history records which card you drew each day, so the same card stays with you until midnight. Your language setting remembers whether you prefer English, Spanish, or Portuguese. Your consent record stores the choice you made in the cookie banner so we do not ask again on every visit. Finally, your recently viewed cards let the site show you quick links back to the card pages you looked at most recently.
Third-party cookies after consent
If you accept analytics and advertising, two Google services may set cookies in your browser. Google Analytics 4 uses cookies to distinguish visits and measure anonymous usage, such as which pages are popular and which reading formats people try. Google AdSense uses cookies to serve and measure ads, which is how a free site with no payments keeps running. Neither service receives your question text, your journal notes, or anything you type into TarotWise. If you choose Essential only, neither service loads, no third-party cookies are set, and the entire site still works normally.
Changing your settings
Your consent choice is never final. On this page you can switch between accepting analytics and advertising or using Essential only, and the change takes effect immediately. This page also includes a clear all local data button, which wipes everything TarotWise has stored in your browser: your journal, daily card history, language preference, consent record, and recently viewed cards. If your journal matters to you, export it to a file before clearing, because there is no server backup and we cannot restore it. You can also manage or delete cookies at any time through your browser's own settings.
