Privacy Policy
TarotWise takes an unusual approach to privacy: the site has no server-side storage at all, so the most private thing we can do is simply never collect your data in the first place.
A website without a server
TarotWise is a static website. When you visit, your browser downloads the pages, the card meanings, and the code that runs readings, and everything after that happens on your device. There is no database of users, no account system, and no backend that receives what you do. We could not read your journal or your questions even if we wanted to, because they never leave your browser. This design is the foundation of our privacy practice: rather than promising to protect data we hold about you, we built the site so that we hold nothing at all.
Data that stays on your device
A few pieces of information are stored in your browser's localStorage so the site can feel personal: your reading journal, your daily card history, your language choice, your cookie consent decision, and your recently viewed cards. None of this is transmitted to us or to anyone else. Questions you type before a reading and notes you write in the journal exist only on your device. You can export your journal to a file for backup and import it again later, and clearing your browser data removes everything. A clear all local data button is also available on our cookies page.
Analytics and advertising
With your consent, TarotWise uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are visited and which features are used, and Google AdSense to show the ads that keep the site free. Neither service loads until you accept it in the consent banner. Analytics events are anonymous usage signals, such as a page view or a reading being started; they never include your question text, your journal content, or anything else you type. If you choose the Essential only option, no analytics or advertising code loads at all, and every feature of the site continues to work exactly the same.
Share links
When you share a reading, TarotWise does not upload it anywhere. Instead, the cards and their positions are encoded directly into the link itself, so whoever opens the link sees the same spread rebuilt in their own browser from the same dictionary. This means a shared reading is only as private as the link: anyone you send it to, and anyone they forward it to, can view it. Your typed question is not included in share links. If you want to keep a reading fully private, save it to your local journal instead of sharing it.
Your choices and control
You are in control of everything TarotWise remembers. You can change your consent decision at any time on the cookies page, switch to Essential only, or clear all locally stored data with a single button. Exporting your journal gives you a file you own outright, which you can back up, move to another device, or delete. Because we keep no server copies, there is nothing to request deletion of from us: removing data from your browser removes it completely. If you have questions about any of this, the cookies page describes each stored item in plain language.
